I am a lecturer in Systems Engineering at the University of Reading in the UK. I specialise in the social, legal and ethical aspects of computer and communication technology. From January to September 2007 I visited Meiji University in Tokyo, funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK, Meiji University and the University of Reading, to perform a study of attitudes to privacy. I continue to work with researchers in Japan on this and related topics and visit Japan regularly.

I was also a committee member of Nippon 2007, the 65th World Science Fiction Convention, held in Yokohama from the 30th August to the 3rd of September 2007.

This blog contains a personal travelogue of my visits to Japan (category Japan), professional musings on general social, legal and ethical implications of computer and communication technology (category SLE) and generaly musings on life. There is also a closed category containing information about Nippon 2007 (category Nippon07).
